"Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment."
- Claude Monet

I’ve had a long creative journey for as long as I can remember. Once I found painting in my teens, there was no turning back.

I’m often inspired by nature, architecture and vibrant daily lives of people and cities around me. Their rich influences guide me into creating gorgeous pieces, be it Art, Textile work or mixed media.

I create beautiful ready-to-wear clothing pieces, accessories, artwork and home decor that adds a splash of color and craft  to your outfit, or your home

My Background

I began my creative journey with a painting class, that led me to study Fashion Design in National Institute of Fashion & Technology, Bangalore, India. There, I learnt to work with fabric and textiles, understood good apparel and fell in love with the vibrant handmade craft traditions in India.

Married life took me to Singapore, allowing me to explore, learn and master the South East Asian craft of Batik. Ever since, I have used Batik as a medium of artistic expression, conceptualizing bespoke scarves and designs through colourful, contemporary designs inspired by life in South East Asia.

My Craft & Creative Journey

Working with Batik

Learning Batik transformed my journey as an artist and a fashion designer. The beautiful traditional techniques using wax, to create layered, nuanced artwork and motifs has helped open up new avenues for design with fabric. I channel my inspiration into beautiful designs, onto scarves, shirts, fabric treatments and many other accessories and apparel pieces.

The handcrafted nature of each design and the beauty in the imperfection of handmade Batik Pieces remain an aesthetic that I cultivate. The world has enough industrial designs and mechanised pieces. Designs with a handmade touch are always unique.

My Working Style

I find my inspiration in the rich tapestry of the world around me, from nature to captivating architecture and streetscapes and the lively day to days of people in bustling cities. Drawing from the vivid colors, dynamic energy, and pulsating rhythms of what I see, I begin conceptualizing a series of products on paper. These initial sketches gradually evolve into intricate, organic illustrations that come to life on textiles, thanks to the meticulous techniques of batik and silk painting.

From this transformed fabric, a diverse range of products get created, including tailor-made scarves, stoles, tops, dresses, as well as home decor items such as cushions and table runners, and an array of personal and home accessories.

Learning

To create something with your own hands, and find expression through a medium, is one of the most special experiences a person can have. Batik is a great craft in the textile arts field to explore.  I teach eager students the craft of batik that I’ve learnt and polished over the years, giving them a way to express and create through this unique craft.
